The vampires and the true werewolves, the Children of the Moon, were not always enemies. They were once at peace, two sides of the same coin. But as the Volturi rose to power, and Caius developed his fear of the werewolves, the werewolf genocide began. Many vampires, fearful or respectful of their new leaders, came to view the werewolves as enemies instead of equals. Any who spoke out against the killings were destroyed by the Volturi. Eventually, the animosity that vampires held towards werewolves became ingrained.
But not all the werewolves are dead. Though nearly extinct in Europe and Asia, populations still exist in the rest of the world. And among them are a small group of rebels. Aware of the peace that once existed between the Children of the Moon and the vampires, they seek to recreate the balance that once existed-by dethroning the Volturi.
Already, the rebels have gained the support of the remnants of the Romanian Coven, and have now traveled to Forks, seeking to gain the support of the Cullens as well, and-if possible-the fledgling Shapeshifter pack of La Push. But they aren't the only ones who have their eyes on Forks. In nearby Seattle, Victoria is creating an army of newborns, seeking to get revenge on Edward for killing his mate-by killing Bella Swan. With the Volturi watching Bella, waiting for her to be changed into a vampire, and Victoria's Army hunting her, will Bella and the Cullens be able to survive?
